Sometimes aging can mean increased social isolation, at a time when people need connections and extra support to thrive. Our Friendly Visiting program matches these isolated seniors with a trained volunteer for weekly “Friendly Visits”. Visits typically focus on the senior’s hobbies and interests, and can include engaging in conversation, reading, and playing games together.

Because seniors in isolated conditions can be vulnerable, we ensure that all Friendly Visitor volunteers receive extensive training and understand the responsibilities involved. All visits take place by telephone or online via a video conferencing service. Alternatively, if the client is willing to travel to Momiji, visits can take place in the Frank H. Hori Community Centre.
We are always in need of volunteers for our Friendly Visiting program. Being a Friendly Visitor means being a part of supporting vulnerable seniors in your community by offering companionship to a specific senior one-on-one. Visitors are matched with clients by common interests, language and location. Before being matched, potential Friendly Visitors must undergo a vulnerable sector check, as well as other training.
If you are interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor, or want more information about the training process, please contact Isabelle at volunteering@momiji.on.ca or by calling her at 416-261-6683 ext. 224.
Know a senior in need of a visit? Please contact Shivonne at 416-261-6683 ext. 261. Unfortunately, there is currently a waitlist due to the low number of trained volunteers available for Friendly Visiting.
