ShoChikuBai Talks: What is the future of the Japanese Canadian community in the Greater Toronto Area?
This is a family-friendly, all ages inter-generational event that will be held at Momiji Health Care Society on Intergenerational Day where we will open-source ideas from the community for the community. Join us for an engaging discussion about the future of the Japanese Canadian community in the GTA, while enjoying Japanese cultural activities such as Taiko drumming, as well as tasty Japanese food and unique vendors.
Connect with fellow JCs to share your thoughts on how we can shape a genki (vibrant and healthy) community together. Don’t miss out on this chance to build community damashi (spirit) through this shared event!
Momiji’s Community Bazaar is one of our oldest and most beloved fundraising events, predating even the Momiji Senior’s Residence building! Some of you know exactly what to expect at our Bazaar, but if you’ve never been, here’s an idea:
🌭 Delicious food! Volunteers work for days preparing food for Bazaar customers, and it’s always worth it. Longtime Bazaar attendees all know to head for the food as soon as the doors open at noon! From sushi and chow mein to manju and baked goods, and even a BBQ outside!
🛍 Amazing deals! Starting in May, Momiji begins accepting donations of lightly used goods from the community. Volunteers carefully sort these donations into their appropriate department, price them, and set them out the morning of the event. There are so many quality second-hand items at great prices: art, books, clothing, jewellery, plants, pink elephant, white elephant, games and toys, and a Japonica Pop-Up!
🍁 A thriving community! Come connect with new friends at Momiji, or catch up with old friends you haven’t seen in a while. Bring your family, even if you see them every day! Our community at Momiji is always growing, and everyone is welcome. Come discover this wonderful space nestled in Scarborough, and support our senior’s programming by shopping until you drop! (Then fuel up on some food and shop some more!)

Hosted by the Toronto Japanese Garden Club (TJGC), the Star Sapphire Festival celebrates the 45th anniversary of their Nature’s Beauty Show. In addition to the usual show offerings, they will transform Momiji into a lively Japanese festival packed entertainment, including Storyteller Rui Umezawa, Isshin Daiko taiko drummers and ten ten shamisen and a delicious array of Japanese food. Fun for the whole family!
Inspired by the sapphire, which is the 45th anniversary gemstone, the date also coincides with Tanabata, known as the Star Festival (held on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month). View the stunning ikebana and bonsai displays, make a wish at the Tanabata wishing tree, or shop in the marketplace!
Admission is $5 per person but is free to Momiji residents and children under 12. For more information, please visit their website.
Once a yearly tradition, the Momiji Summer BBQ hasn’t been held since pre-pandemic. We are so excited for its return this year on August 14th! With delicious freshly prepared food and live music by Bruce Tatemichi and his band, it’s sure to be an evening to remember!
The resident fee is $10, and $12 for everyone else! Pre-registration is required—please call 416-261-6683 ext. 239 to register, or if you have any questions.
Momiji is excited to offer a fun-filled day of summer games, karaoke performances, odori and hula dancing! Chinese-style Cold noodle lunch will be offered for $15, or just $5 to join without a lunch!
Join us for a splendid performance by two young musicians from Japan!
