Join the Japanese Dance Celebration on February 10th!

Feeling the Winter Blues? Come to Momiji to experience a new fundraising event – our New Year’s Japanese Dance Celebration! We are thrilled to be hosting three dance teams for this celebration:

  • Kochi Yosakoi Ambassador KIZUNA International Team, sponsored by the NAJC, Greater Toronto Chapter
  • Ayame-Kai
  • Momiji Odori no Kai

Although the dance performance does not start until 1:30, you can pre-order a boxed lunch ( ½ tuna and ½ egg salad sandwich; side coleslaw; a piece of fruit and cookie, all prepared by our Momiji Café Volunteers) and enjoy this at Momiji with your friends and family starting at noon. Tickets are $10 ($5 for seniors or youth/children under 16) and the lunch is an affordable $6. Pre-ordering is necessary.

At the end of the performances, there will be two workshops where the audience will be able to participate – if you wish. There will also be a mini-raffle and some Japonica items for sale. To order tickets please visit our EventBrite page or contact our Communications & Development department at fundraising@momiji.on.ca or call 416.261.6683, ext. 259 or 260.

Japanese Canadian Legacy Monument Update and Information Session – September 20

The Japanese Canadian Legacy Monument Database team led by University of Victoria’s Michael Abe is developing the list of names of Japanese Canadians living in coastal BC prior to the forced uprooting to be preserved on a legacy monument in Victoria, BC.

We invite JC members to look at the working site that contains a working list of the names of people forcibly uprooted from coastal BC to outside the 100 mile “protected” zone.

Please join us for an information session and demonstration of the working site and case file records. Learn more about the project and find out how you can check your family names and place of origin and submit corrections and additions.

Eric Hong’s Resignation Announcement

To our friends, colleagues and community of interest.

I regret to inform you that I will be leaving the role of Chief Executive Officer of Momiji Health Care Society. My last day of work at Momiji will be Oct 6th 2023.

It has been an honor and pleasure serving Momiji over the past five years. I am grateful for the unfailing support of the Board and the dedication of the staff alongside whom I have endeavored to advance the Momiji mission in service of older adults of Japanese descent. I have experienced great challenges and tremendous satisfaction in equal parts and will fondly remember this episode of my career.

The Board of Directors is working on a transition plan towards recruiting and appointing my successor. An interim arrangement will be put in place should that not be concluded by the time of my departure and communicated to all concerned

Yours sincerely.

Eric W. Hong MSW, MHSc, CHE

Chief Executive Officer Momiji Health Care Society
